We call on the UK Government not to introduce a curfew restricting 16- and 17-year-olds' access to social media. This is an unnecessary overreach into family and personal choice.
16-year-olds already hold major legal rights and responsibilities in the UK: they pay income tax, can consent to sex, train as pilots, get a driving licence at 17, and will soon be able to vote in all elections. A blanket social media curfew is excessive and undermines parents' right to decide how their nearly-adult children use the internet, while contradicting the message that 16-year-olds are mature enough to help choose the government.
