Introduce much more severe punishments for trafficking for sexual exploitation — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.
We call on the Government to introduce significantly tougher penalties for human trafficking for sexual exploitation, including mandatory life sentences for the most serious offences. Stronger sentences would be much more appropriate for the severity of these crimes and to deter offenders.
Sexual trafficking is a grave crime that causes severe and lasting harm to victims, including vulnerable women and children. Stronger sentences are required to bring justice and prevent future offences. The current sentences are not an effective deterrent for these vast criminal networks that operate across the UK. For the most serious offences, a life sentence is necessary and appropriate for the harm caused by this crime, and would demonstrate the UK's clear commitment to tackling the issue.
