Petition background

For the Government to amend early release arrangements for determinate sentences in England and Wales so offenders convicted of rape and child sexual offences are excluded from eligibility for early release to ensure public confidence in sentencing and greater reassurance to victims and the public.

Additional details

I was affected by childhood sexual abuse. The offender was convicted of rape and sexual assault and sentenced to 9 years. I have been informed his release will be earlier due to changes under the Sentencing Act 2026 governing early release for determinate sentences. I ask Government to exclude offenders convicted of rape and child sexual offences from early release so they serve the custodial sentence imposed by the court as the changes make a mockery of the judicial system and the victims alike.
