Exclude gaming, educational and creator platforms from any social media ban — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.
We call on the UK Government to exclude gaming, livestreaming, educational and creator-focused platforms from any legislation introducing a ban on social media access for under-16s.
Gaming, livestreaming, educational and creator-focused platforms provide far more than social media. They offer opportunities for learning, creativity, skill development and community participation. We are particularly concerned about the impact on disabled and vulnerable young people, many of whom rely on these platforms to socialise, build friendships and reduce isolation. We believe child safety should be improved through targeted protections rather than blanket restrictions.
