We call on UK government to end daily standing charges on gas and electricity bills and replace them with a fairer, fully transparent pricing system. Standing charges force households to pay every day just for being connected, even when they use very little energy or are trying to cut costs.
This hits low-income households, low-use homes, empty properties, and people trying to save energy the hardest. If energy companies say these costs are real, then they should be shown clearly in the unit price or disclosed in a way that is honest, simple, and easy for consumers to understand. The current system hides fixed costs in a daily fee that many people see as unfair and misleading. We are asking Parliament and DESNZ to require Ofgem to remove standing charges.
