We call on the Government to introduce legislation that creates a legally binding mechanism allowing the public to trigger an early general election.

Currently, the public has no direct, lawful way to hold a government to account between general elections.The Dissolution and Calling of Parliament Act 2022 places the power to call elections entirely in the hands of the Prime Minister and the Monarch.No mechanism exists for the electorate to challenge them.Introducing a public recall framework would strengthen British democracy, enhance accountability, and ensure that any government remains continuously responsive to the mandate of the people
