UK Government should be responsible for the maintenance of all London bridges — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.
London is the capital of the UK.London bridges play a vital strategic role in enabling rapid access for emergency services, including police, ambulances, firefighters, to reach their destinations efficiently. No new road bridge for motor vehicles has been constructed in London over the past 80 years
All existing motor vehicle bridges in London were constructed before the Second World War, at a time when car ownership and commercial traffic were minimal. Since then, the city’s population, economy, and traffic volumes have grown dramatically, yet no new major road bridges have been added in nearly 80 years. This situation is no longer sustainable. We therefore respectfully urge the Government to treat this as a national priority and take immediate action.
