Hold a Parliamentary Debate on Electoral Reform and Proportional Representation

Hold a Parliamentary Debate on Electoral Reform and Proportional Representation — 13 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

We call on the Government to hold a full parliamentary debate on electoral reform and proportional representation so the public and Parliament can openly discuss whether the current system remains fit for purpose

Additional details

The recent local elections showed how fragmented UK politics has become. Millions now vote for parties outside the traditional two-party system, yet a party can still gain overwhelming power without broad national support. Whether people vote Labour, Conservative, Reform UK, Green or Liberal Democrat, their views deserve fair representation in Parliament. The UK now looks far more like a multi-party country than a two-party one, and many voters feel Parliament no longer reflects how we vote.
