Reform house buying in uk to ensure people are protected like Scotland

Reform house buying in uk to ensure people are protected like Scotland — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

We ask the UK Government to reform property law in England to align more closely with the Scottish model. The process in Scotland makes offers legally binding earlier, which we think helps reduce fall-throughs and creates a more secure, fair process for all that limits damage to mental health.

Additional details

I am writing this petition after buyers pulled out on the day of exchange twice in two years. The emotional, financial and mental health impact has been unbearable. In Scotland, people have greater legal protection much earlier in the process. Families in the rest of the UK deserve the same protection as the impact on children involved in the move is huge. They face uncertainty and disappointment when everything falls apart. I urge the Government to reform the house buying system
