The government should not introduce a ban on smoking for people born after 2008

The government should not introduce a ban on smoking for people born after 2008 — 6 signatures. Status: rejected.

Petition background

The smoking ban should be implemented for a younger generation or removed altogether. I would propose those born after 2012. Instead a greater awareness around the dangers of smoking and strategies to overcome peer pressure would be more appropriate to implement.

Additional details

I think this because those currently aged 16 would be banned. Many of people this age are already smoking. By making it illegal for them to smoke in future, many will resort to purchasing illegally and then becoming addicted to more harmful substances. With the proposed date, those currently aged 13 will be the first to be banned. This would be more likely do decrease the amount of already addicted people from being negatively affected by the ban.
