We call on the Government to align its bans on harmful chemicals in consumer products with those of the EU, unless a UK assessment proves them safe. We also call on the Government to apply to rejoin the EU Safety Gate alert system.
Since creating UK REACH, the UK has adopted very few new chemical restrictions, while the EU adopted many more. Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the UK no longer has access to the EU Safety Gate system that warns about dangerous products. One opinion poll conducted by Chem trust suggests that 63% of the UK public, oppose any reduction in chemical safety standards.
